Description of key information

Acid Red 195 was considered to have low toxicity to the aquatic species.

Additional information

Short term toxicity tests are available for all the three tropic levels (fish, invertebrates and aquatic plants).

In a 96 h acute fish toxicity test, the test substance FAT 20042/B was observed to have 96 h TL50 to Rainbow trout 450 mg/L. In another similarly conducted study, the 96 h LC50 of FAT 20042/A was found to be 57 mg/L.

Similarly in a study conducted according to OECD Guideline 202, the 48 h EC50 value of the test substance FAT 20042/D to Daphnia magna was determined to be greater than 14.3 mg/L.

Further in a GLP-compliant OECD Guideline 221 study, Lemna gibba (Duckweed) were exposed to the test item FAT 20042/D for 7 days. In this study, ErC50 based upon the frond number was greater than 125 mg/L. Therefore, it can be concluded that there were no toxic effects at saturation.

The IC50 (3 h) of FAT 20042/D was determined to be >320.0 mg/l in 3 h activated sludge respiration inhibition test.

Based on the available data, Acid Red 195 was considered to have low toxicity to the aquatic species.
