EC number: 500-016-2 | CAS number: 9004-98-2 1 - 2.5 moles ethoxylated
The PBT Assessment for alcohol ethoxylate ((Z)-9-Octadecen-1-ol ethoxylated, < 2.5 , CAS 9004-98-2) is based on the criteria set out in the “Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment, Chapter R.11: PBT Assessment” (ECHA, 2014).
All members of the category alcohol ethoxylates are readily biodegradable which is proved by several studies available for the certain mixtures. Due to the ready biodegradability of alcohol ethoxylates it is unlikely that the substances persist in the environment. Thus, the substance does not meet the screening criterion for persistency and is not considered to be persistent (P) or very persistent (vP).
Bioaccumulation in organisms is negligible, due to biotransformation and excretion of alcohol ethoxylates. Thus, the substance does not meet the screening criterion for bioaccumulation and is not considered to be bioaccumulative (B) or very bioaccumulative (vB).
No long-term effects below the trigger value of 0.01 mg/L (EC10 or NOEC) occurred. Moreover, the substance is not classified according to Directive 67/548/EEC and Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 (8th ATP) as carcinogen, germ cell mutagenic or toxic for reproduction. Thus, the criteria set out in Annex XIII of Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 are not met and the test substance is not considered to meet the T criterion.
Because the substance does not fulfill the PBT and vPvB criteria, no emission characterisation needs to be performed.
