Studies on three trophic levels are available for DDNSA and di C8-C10, branched, C9 rich, alkylnaphthalene sulphonic acid) (DNNSA). In all these studies no effects were observed at concentrations below the water solubility. Therefore the starting point for risk assessment will be the water solubility (see section on physico-chemical properties).

The outcome of toxicity toward bacteria gave a NOEC of 100 mg/L for DNNSA. Based on the results of the aquatic bridging studies, a read-across is applied here as well.
