Description of key information

EC50 = 118.95 mg/L (geom. mean from two studies):
- 24 h EC50 = 90 µg/L (nominal) (Daphnia magna) OECD TG 202 / DIN 38412/11, static, no data on GLP, RL2; read-across: Amides, C8-18 even numbered, N-[3-(dimethylamino)propyl]
- 48 h EC50 = 157.2 µg/L (time weighed mean) (Daphnia magna) OECD TG 202, static, GLP, RL1; read-across: Amides, C8-18 even numbered, N-[3-(dimethylamino)propyl]

Additional information

For the assessment of the acute toxicity of Amides, C8-18, C18 unsatd, N-[3-(dimethylamino)propyl] to freshwater invertebrates two studies conducted with the closely related source substance Amides, C8-18 even numbered, N-[3-(dimethylamino)propyl] are available.

Supporting data on the target substance itself is also available. The study, however, is insufficiently documented. A justification for read-across is given in IUCLID section 13.

In an Acute Immobilization Test with Daphnia according to OECD guideline 202, 13 April 2004 and EC method C2, 1992, the influence of Amides, C8-18 even numbered, N-[3-(dimethylamino)propyl] on immobilization of Daphnia magna was investigated. The daphnids were placed in water containing the test item in nominal concentrations of 125, 250, 500, 1000 and 2000 µg/L. The test was conducted under static conditions. Effects on immobilization were determined after 24 and 48 hours. Immobilization was significantly increased starting at a time weighted mean (TWM) concentration of 164.4 µg test item per liter (NOEC=94.3 µg/L). The EC50 for the tested species was determined to be 157.2 µg/L based on time weighed mean concentrations (TWM).

In an Acute Immobilization Test with Daphnia magna according to OECD Guideline 202 and DIN 38412/11 (Oct. 1982) the influence of Amides, C8-18 even numbered, N-[3-(dimethylamino)propyl] on immobilization of Daphnia magna was investigated in a static test system. No analytical monitoring was performed. Therefore the results are based on nominal concentration:

EC50 (24 h) = 0.09 mg/L

The slight discrepancy in EC50 (∆ 0.067 mg/L) may result from the differences in test duration 24h and 48 h as well as the purity of the test substance 89.39% and 91. 2% in Acute toxicity test and Acute immobilisation test respectively.

In a supporting study according to OECD guideline 202 conducted with the target substance Amides, C8-18, C18 unsatd, N-[3-(dimethylamino)propyl], the EC50 to Daphnia magna of the test substance was determined to be 0.4 mg/L.

As two reliable EC50 values for the same species and endpoint are available, the geometric mean was calculated from these two. The overall EC50 for Daphnia magna is thus 118.95 µg/L.
