Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

This test can be waived because the substance is a liquid under normal environmental conditions. For liquids, the key measure of the flammability is the flash point (see section 4.11).
Experience in handling and use show that the substance is not flammable in contact with water and has no pyrophoric properties. Moreover, The substance is synthesised in a closed process. It is then collected and transported via a pipe-line all the way to its site of use (where its end use is as a fuel in a thermal power station). The pattern of use of the substance involves then a high level of containment. Accordingly, exposure to the substance is very unlikely.
Tests on these parameters have thus not to be conducted.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on a flash point of 25.6°C and a boiling range of 81.6°C-278.2°C, distillation residues of butyraldehyde, 2-ethylhexenal and isobutanal hydrogenation by-products is classified flammable (R10) according to 67/548/EEC and flammable liquids cat.3 (H226) according to 2008/1272/EC (CLP, GHS)
