- PREPARATION AND APPLICATION OF TEST SOLUTION
- Method: A saturated solution with a nominal loading of 1 mL test item/L (nominal: 962.1 mg/L) was prepared once with de-mineralized water four days prior to the start of the exposure. The test item was placed by pipetting on the surface of the demineralized water. The solution was stirred slowly to avoid formation of emulsion (magnetic stirrer, room temperature for 3 d at 30 °C ± 2 °C. After pre-incubation, the temperature of the solution was reduced to the test temperature of 21 - 24 °C for 24 h ± 1 h. The test item phase was separated by siphon from the bottom and was used for testing with further dilution. The saturated solution was checked after stirring via laser beam (Tyndall effect) for un-dissolved test item (formation of an emulsion). Thereafter, the components of the dilution water were added to the solution.

- Details on results:
- - Exponential growth in the control (for algal test): yes

- Any stimulation of growth found in any treatment: yes, 1% stimulation of growth at 1.34 mg/L and 2% stimulation of growth at 2.43 mg/L
- Any observations (e.g. precipitation) that might cause a difference between measured and nominal values: no, test solutions were clear and colorless - Results with reference substance (positive control):
- - Results with reference substance valid? yes
- EC50: ErC50 (72 h): 0.564 mg/L (with headspace, 95% CI: 0.546 - 0.582 mg/L), 1.15 mg/L (without headspace, 95% CI: 0.922 - 1.32 mg/L) - Reported statistics and error estimates:
- ECx-values were calculated by sigmoidal dose-response regression. The NOEC and LOEC were determined by calculation of statistically significant differences of growth rates and yield. As a standard, One Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and Dunnett’s test were used for NOEC/LOEC calculations. When running a One Way Analysis of Variance, a Normality test and an Equal Variance test were done first. P-values for both Normality and Equal Variance tests are 0.05. The alpha-value (acceptable probability of incorrectly concluding that there is a difference) is alpha=0.05.
- Validity criteria fulfilled:
- yes
- Conclusions:
- The study resulted in an ErC50 (72 h) of > 14.4 mg/L and an ErC10 (72 h) of 7.6 mg/L based on the geometric mean of the measured concentrations (OECD 201).

Additional information
One experimental study is available investigating the toxicity of the substance to aquatic freshwater algae. The study was conducted according to OECD 201 (GLP) under static conditions using the freshwater algae Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata. Dilutions of 10, 18, 32, 56 and 100% of a saturated solution were chosen based on the results from a preliminary range-finding test. It was ensured by an appropriate test design that the substance does not volatilize from the test vessels (closed vessels; no headspace). Inhibition of growth was recorded resulting in an ErC10 (72 h) of 7.6 mg/L and an ErC50 (72 h) > 14.4 mg/L. All effect values were based on the geometric mean of measured concentrations.
