Description of key information

At the nominal concentration of 100 mg/L of the test item Reactive Brown DYHY 0331 / 0334, no effects were observed on Daphnia magna.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

In the acute immobilisation test with Daphnia magna (STRAUS), the effects of the limit concentration of 100 mg/L of the test item Reactive Brown DYHY0331 / 0334 were determined according to OECD 202 (2004).The limit test was conducted under semi-static conditions over a period of 48 hours.

The test item is a black to dark brown powder and is well soluble in water. The limit concentration of 100 mg/L was opaque and had a brown to violet colour throughout the exposure intervals. The overall test performance was not influenced by any undesired side effects resulting from this discoloration of the test solution.

Twenty daphnids were exposed to the limit concentration of 100 mg/L and the control.

The limit concentration of 100 mg/L and the control were analytically verified via HPLC-DAD at the start (0 and 24 h) and at the end of both exposure intervals (24 and 48 h). The measured concentrations of the test item at the start of the exposure intervals (0 and 24 h) were 101 % of the nominal concentration. The measured concentrations of the test item at the end of the exposure intervals (24 and 48 h) were 97 and 98 % of the nominal concentration. The measured test item concentrations were all within ± 20 % of the nominal concentrations. This indicates that the test item concentrations were successfully maintained for the duration of the test.

The effect values were based on the nominal concentration of the item Reactive Brown DYHY 0331 / 0334.

Water quality parameters (i.e. pH-value and dissolved oxygen concentration), measured at the start (0 and 24 h) and at the end of the exposure intervals (24 and 48 h), were within the acceptable limits. The validity criteria of the test guidelines were fulfilled.
