The concentrations were sufficiently constant during the tests. The difference between the concentrations of aluminium respectively iron of day 1 to 3 was 15 % at both tests. Therefore the mean of day 1 - 3 was taken as the solubility of the test substance at 20 °C, according to the guidelines. Two repeat samples and 3 times each were used to calculate the mean solubility.

The water solubility of the test substance at 20 °C was calculated from the determined concentrations of Al and Fe and the content of the elements in the test substance (26.0 % for Al and 33.6 % for Fe). As it was not known, if the dissolved Al- or Fe-concentration originated from the spinel itself or from unreacted starting materials used in the production of the spinel or from impurities, the water solubility was termed water solubility of "test substance equivalents".

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
Interpretation of results (migrated information): insoluble (< 0.1 mg/L)
The mean solubility of aluminium is 0.0037 mg/l, < 0.01 mg/l for iron respectively.
The water solubility of the "Hercynite" is <0.03 mg / L at 20 °C.
Executive summary:

The mean solubility of aluminium is 0.0037 mg/l, < 0.01 mg/l for iron respectively.

The water solubility of the unchanged test substance "Hercynite" is < 0.03 mg / L at 20 °C.
