Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

No significant inhibition of respiration was measured up to the highest tested concentration of 1000 mg/L (nominal).
The EC20 in the activated sludge respiration inhibition test is >100 mg/L.

Additional information

In an activated sludge respiration inhibition test the influence of the test item on the activated sludge by measuring the respiration rate was evaluated according to annex of EEC Directive 88/302/EEC, corresponding to OECD Guideline 209 and ISO Standard 8192.
The respiration rate (oxygen consumption) of an aerobic activated sludge was measured in the presence of various concentrations of the test item after an incubation period of 30 minutes. The following test concentrations were used: 1, 10, 100 and 1000 mg test item/L. No significant inhibition of respiration was measured up to the highest tested concentration of 1000 mg/L (nominal). The EC20 in the activated sludge respiration inhibition test is >100 mg/L. 3,5 -Dichlorophenol was tested as a reference substance. The 30 min EC50 for the positive control 3,5-Dichlorophenol, was found to be 8 mg/L and is within the range of 5 – 30 mg/L as recommended by the test guidelines; thus, confirming suitability of the activated sludge.
