Description of key information

Potassium dicyanoaurate showed no signs of self ignition or self-heating when the test item was held at 140 °C for 24 hours. Additionally, when the test item was heated from 140 to 400 °C, the same temperature did not exceed the oven temperature by greater than 60 °C.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

A GLP-compliant, guideline study is available for this endpoint (Harlan Laboratories 2011) and is considered suitable for use as the key study. Self-heating was assessed using a modified test method based on UN test N4 and EU test A16, which is considered to produce equally robust results as the standard method but uses less volume of test substance. Due to the limited availability and high cost of the test material, which may not always be manufactured on a regular basis, this modified method was used.
