Description of key information

In reliable studies (Hoecht AG) according to OECD 404 and OECD 405 2,4-Dichlorobenzyl chloride was neither irritating to skin nor to the eye.

Based upon practical experience 2,4-Dichlorobenzyl chloride may induce irritation to the eye, to the respiratory system and to skin in case of partial hydrolytic decomposition with formation of hydrochloric acid. While no statistically reliable information about this observation is available it is however regarded as conclusive for classification and labelling.

This assumption is supported by a study (Fraunhofer-Institut) on skin irritation with a 24h application period of the test substance.
