Description of key information

Titration curve of both Ca and hypophosphite ions.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

pKa at 20°C:
12.6

Additional information

No dissociation constant was measured for hypophosphite ion. Calcium ion has got a pKa = 12.6, i.e. very alcaline.

This means that both ions are very stable in a large pH range. Only at very high pH minor precipitation of Ca(OH)2 may occur.

Dissolution of Calcium hypophosphite in water does not affect the pH of the solution.
