Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
other: GLP-compliant, guideline study, available as unpublished report, acceptable without restrictions
Qualifier:
equivalent or similar to guideline
Guideline:
other: EC No 1272/2008 Method N.1 of the United Nations Recommendations on the Transport of Danergous Goods, Manual of Tests and Criteria, fifth revised edition 2009
Deviations:
no
Principles of method if other than guideline:
Preliminary screening test: A 250 x 20 x 10 mm mould was loosely filled with test item and a non combustible, non-porous board placed onto mould which was then inverted. The mould was removed and an air-rich Bunsen burner flame was applied to one end of pile for five minutes.
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Interpretation of results:
non flammable
Remarks:
Migrated information
Conclusions:
Iridium is not classified as a flammable solid in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 of 16 December 2008 on Classification, Labelling and Packaging of substances and Mixtures as it failed to ignite in the preliminary screening test.
Executive summary:

This is a GLP compliant, guideline study considered suitable for use as the key study for this endpoint. Iridium is not classified as a flammable solid in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 of 16 December 2008 on Classification, Labelling and Packaging of substances and mixtures as it failed to ignite in the preliminary screening test.

Description of key information

Iridium is not classified as a flammable solid in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 of 16 December 2008 on Classification, Labelling and Packaging of substances and Mixtures as it failed to ignite in the preliminary screening test.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
non flammable

Additional information

Result is from a GLP-compliant study following a standard guideline (Harlan, 2011) and is considered suitable for use as the key study for this endpoint. Iridium is not classified as a flammable solid in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 of 16 December 2008 on Classification, Labelling and Packaging of substances and mixtures as it failed to ignite in the preliminary screening test.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Iridium is not classified as a flammable solid in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 of 16 December 2008 on Classification, Labelling and Packaging of substances and mixtures as it failed to ignite in the preliminary screening test.
