Description of key information

A slow decomposition of the test item was observed from 200 °C to 300 °C but no boiling point was observed until 600°C.

The boiling point was determined by DSC Method according to OECD guideline 103, EU Method A.2 and GLP. No deviation from the guidelines was observed during the study.

The temperature accuracy of the DSC was assessed using a reference standard. The apparatus was considered acceptable for use according to the result obtained with the reference standard.

The boiling point value of the test substance is consistent with the value of an analogue substance. The analogue "Reaction product of naphthalene, propan-2-ol, sulfonated and neutralized by caustic soda" do not have a boiling point until 500°C.The same method was used for the analogue substance and the test substance to determine this parameter.

A slight difference between these studies was noted during the test. Indeed, a slow decomposition of the sample was observed for the test substance between 200 to 300°C. No decomposition was specified in the boiling point study for the analogue substance, but a little fluctuation of the graph 'heat flow as function of temperature' was observed around 300°C. This deviation can be caused by a very slow decomposition of the analogue substance. This hypothesis was reinforced by the DSC analysis performed on the analogue substance. In this experimentation a decomposition peak was observed around 300°C. So for the both substances, a decomposition occurred around 300°C but it was more negligible for the analogue substance that for the test substance.
