Description of key information

No chemical incompatibility was observed in a US EPA guideline GLP study using potassium permanganate solution, iron powder, and a monoammonium phosphate solution.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

In a guideline study (US EPA OPPTS 830.6314) conducted according to GLP, the test material was tested for chemical incompatibility (violent reactions) with water and representative oxidising, reducing and fire extinguishing agents (namely a potassium permanganate solution, iron powder and a monoammonium phosphate solution, respectively).

Upon combination of the test material and agent (or water) there were no significant temperature changes and no other indications of reactivity. After approximately 24 hours under ambient conditions, the test material showed visual signs of reaction with water (a "small cloudy pink layer on the surface touching the water"). The were no other observations. In conclusion, no chemical incompatibility was observed under the test conditions.
