Description of key information
The substance is a liquid; hence its 'flammability' is dependent on flash point. Two flash point studies are available: a 1998 study which concluded a flash point of 174 °C and a 2010 study which concluded a flash point of 242 °C. Hence, the substance should not be considered to be flammable.

In accordance with section 2 of Annex XI of the REACH Regulation, it is not technically possible to conduct the flammability (solids) test required under section 7.10 of Annex VII. The substance is a liquid and hence testing is not technically feasible. The flash point is the more appropriate measure of flammability for this type of material.
Two flash-point studies are available for the substance (see IUCLID Section 4.11), which concluded flash-point values of 174 °C (Shell, 1998) and 242 °C (Wildlife International Ltd., 2010). EC Regulation 1272/2008 (CLP) on the Classification, Labelling and Packaging of substances defines "flammable liquids" as "having a flash point of not more than 60 degrees Centigrade". The flash point of the substance is much higher than this threshold and the substance is therefore considered to be non-flammable.
In accordance with point 1 of Annex XI, it is considered justified to omit the testing for substances or mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases. Testing does not appear scientifically necessary; based upon the chemical structure water activity is not to be expected; furthermore, the substance was tested for chemical incompatibility (violent reactions) with water and representative oxidising, reducing and fire extinguishing agents in an oxidation reduction potential test. Upon combination of the test material and water there were no significant temperature changes and no other indications of reactivity. After approximately 24 hours under ambient conditions, the test material showed visual signs of reaction with water (a "small cloudy pink layer on the surface touching the water").
In accordance with point 1 of Annex XI, it is considered justified to omit the testing for pyrophoric properties. Testing does not appear scientifically necessary; based upon the chemical structure pyrophoric properties are not to be expected; furthermore, experience in use and experience of handling the substance indicates that it does not possess pyrophoric properties.
Justification for classification or non-classification
In accordance with the criteria for classification as defined in Annex I, Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008, the substance does not require classification with respect to flammability.
