Description of key information
Toxicity to soil microorganism:
The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of the test item on the activity of soil microflora with regard to nitrogen transformation (mineralization) and carbon transformation (respiration) in a laboratory test over a period of 28 days of exposure. The test was performed in accordance with the OECD guidelines 216 and 217 (2000) by measuring the nitrogen turnover and the short-term substrate-induced respiration.
No adverse effects of the test item on nitrogen and carbon transformation in soil were observed at both tested concentrations (0.53 mg/kg dry soil and 2.67 mg/kg dry soil) after 28 days.
Toxicity to terrestrial plants:
The soil application of P70/05/S-5 to oat, onion, oilseed rape, sunflower, cucumber and pea plants caused
no adverse effects on seedling emergence and shoot fresh weight at the tested rates of 400 and 2000 g
test item/ha.
No visible phytotoxic effects were observed on day 21 after 50 % emergence at the tested rates.
The No Observed Effect Rates (NOER) for the six tested plant species at test termination 21 days was estimated as ≥ 2.667mg test item/kg soil dw..
Toxicity to terrestrial arthropods:
In a 28-day Folsomia candida reproduction study, in which collembolans were exposed to P70/05/S-5, the LC50 was calculated to be 900 mg test item/kg soil dry weight. The NOEC for mortality and reproduction was determined to be 500 and 250 mg test item/kg soil d.w., respectively. The EC50 (based on reproduction) for number of juveniles was calculated to be 616 mg test item/kg soil dry weight.
Short-term toxicity to soil macroorganism-earthworm:
Effects of P70/05/S-4 on survival and growth of the earthworm Eisenia fetida andrei were determined according to OECD guideline 207 at test concentrations of 100 and 1000 mg P70/05/S-4/kg soil d.w. after an exposure period of 14 days.
The NOEC was determined to be 1000 mg P70/05/S-4/kg soil d.w..
The 14-d LC50 could not be calculated, but it can be concluded that the LC50 is higher than 1000 mg P70/05/S-4/kg soil d.w.
Long-term toxicity to soil macroorganism-earthworm:
In a 56-day earthworm reproduction study with the test item no statistically significantly adverse effects on mortality and biomass of the earthworm Eisenia fetida in artificial soil were determined up to and including 1000 mg test item/kg soil dry weight, i.e. the highest concentration tested. The NOEC for biomass and reproduction was determined to be 1000 and 250 mg test item/kg soil dry weight, respectively. The EC50 (based on reproduction) was calculated to be 632 mg test item/kg soil dry weight.
