Additional information

The biodegradability of isobutyl-(R)-lactate was calculated by QSAR estimation using EpiSuite 4.1/BIOWIN, Biowin 1–7. All sub-model results unequivocally predict that isobutyl-(R)-lactate is readily biodegradable (including anaerobic degradation); the predicted time frame for ultimate degradation is days to weeks. Due to the ready biodegradability, a study on hydrolysis was not conducted. Based on the low log Kow (0.73), the substance is expected to have low potential for adsorption to sediment and soil. In accordance with column 2 of REACH Annex VIII, the adsorption/desorption screening test has therefore not been conducted. In accordance with column 2 of REACH Annex IX, also a bioaccumulation study in aquatic or sediment species is not required because isobutyl-(R)-lactate has a low octanol-water partition coefficient (log Kow < 3), and thus a low potential for bioaccumulation.
