Description of key information

The log Pow of isobutyl-(S)-lactate is 1.1. QSAR estimation revealed a log Pow value of 0.73 for isobutyl-(R)-lactate.

According to Clary, Feron & van Velthuijsen (1998) the log Pow of isobutyl-(S)-lactate is 1.1. The value can be extrapolated to the target substance isobutyl-(R)-lactate without restrictions, since being the optical antipode. The octanol-water partition coefficient of isobutyl-(R)-lactate was also estimated by QSAR calculation using EPISuite 4.1/KOWWIN v.1.68. The estimated log Pow of 0.73 is relatively low and suggests hydrophilic properties associated with a decreased potential for adsorption and bioaccumulation. The value is in good agreement with that determined by Clary et al. (1998) for isobutyl-(S)-lactate. The QSAR estimate was selected as the key value since Clary et al. (1998) is only scarcely documented.
