Endpoint:
substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the experience in production or handling shows that the substance does not react with water, e.g. the substance is manufactured with water or washed with water
Endpoint:
self-heating substances / mixtures
Data waiving:
study technically not feasible
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is completely molten at 160°C
Endpoint:
pyrophoric solids
Data waiving:
study technically not feasible
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
Endpoint:
pyrophoric liquids
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
Endpoint:
flammable gases
Data waiving:
study technically not feasible
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is a solid
Endpoint:
flammable solids

Key result
Test procedure:
burning time (test type not further specified)
Remarks:
or specified in description of method (migrated information)
Burning time:
0 s
Remarks on result:
other: The substance could not be ignited with a flame. The substance melted. So preliminary test sufficient.

In the preliminary test the test item did not burn over distance of 200 mm. Thus, the performance of the main test was not necessary.

Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Remarks:
Migrated information
Conclusions:
According to UN Manual, Test N.1, Regulation (EC) No. 440/2008, Method A.10 and VCI 2263 (1990), the test item could not be ignited by a flame. Hence, classification is considered to be not required for the tested substance.

Description of key information

A.10. Flammability (solids): not flammable
A.11. Flammability (gases): not flammable
A.12. Flammability (contact with water): not flammable
A.13. Pyrophoric properties of solids and liquids: not flammable

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
non flammable

Additional information

A.10: According to UN Manual, Test N.1, EU Method A.10 and VCI 2263 (1990), the test item could not be ignited applying a flame as ignition source for at least 2 minutes. Hence, classification is considered to be not required for the tested substance.

A.11: In accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 Annex XI section 1, a test according to A.11 (flammability; gases) is not considered to be required, since the test item is a solid substance with a melting point of 146.4 °C and therefore not a gas at room temperature.

A.12: In accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 Annex XI section 1, a test according to A.12 (flammability; contact with water) is not considered to be required, because the substance does not contain groups that might lead to a reaction with water or damp air, leading to the development of dangerous amounts of gas or gases which may be highly flammable. Furthermore, experience in practical handling of the substance shows that it does not react with water.

A.13: In accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 Annex XI section 1, a test according to A.13 (pyrophoric properties of solids and liquids) is not considered to be required, since the test substance is stable at ambient temperature. The substance does not contain any chemical group that might lead to spontaneous ignition a short time after coming in contact with air at room temperature (approx 20 °C). Furthermore, experience in handling shows that the substance does not ignite in contact with air.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The test item is not a flammable solid in the sense of the classification criteria as laid down in Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008, as amended for the eighteenth time in Regulation (EU) 2022/692.
