Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

By estimation: LFL: 10-45 % v/v, UFL: 73-75% v/v.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
extremely flammable

Additional information

The estimates were generated by calculation and visual methods, based on the concentration, LFL and UFL values of the three flammable constituents H2, CO and CH4.

Whatever its composition, Off-gas has to be considered as H220 Extremely flammable gas (Category 1).

This qualitative conclusion is totally reliable in spite of the small uncertainty (visual determination) and high variability (due to variable composition) of the LFL and UFL values.

Justification for classification or non-classification

  • The LFL and UFL values for the most flammable Off-gas composition fulfil CLP criterion 1(a) (LFL = 10 < 13% v/v) and 1(b) (UFL-LFL = 65 % v/v > 12 % v/v).
  • The LFL and UFL values for the least flammable Off-gas composition do not fulfil CLP criterion 1(a) (LFL = 45 % v/v > 13% v/v) but fulfil criterion 1(b) (UFL-LFL = 28 % v/v > 12 % v/v).

Hence, whatever its composition, Off-gas has to be considered as H220 Extremely flammable gas (Category 1).
