For biodegradation in soil, non-standard investigations under various conditions show that EDTA can be biodegraded in soil under aerobic conditions. The rate of EDTA degradation was determined in three natural soils after 20 days of exposure. 14% of a 2 mmol/kg EDTA treatment (equivalent to 584 mg/kg soil) was degraded in the three used soils under test conditions (Wen, 2009). Degradation in soil was also found in studies by Tiedje (1975, 1977).
