Executive summary:

The study used as source reference investigated acute toxicity to daphnids (Daphnia magna) during 48 hours of exposure according to OECD 202 and in compliance with GLP. The 48h-LC50 (Daphnia magna, immobility) was determined to be >108 mg/L (corrected for the molecular weight of the target substance). The validity criteria of the test guideline were fulfilled and results of the source compound were considered applicable to the target compound. Description of key information

No acute toxicity data on aquatic invertebrates for the submission substance is available. However adequate and reliable data for structural analogues is available (i.e. C8TM and C8C10TM, for read-across justification please see read-across report in section 13). The derived 48h-EC50 (Daphnia magna, immobility) > 108 mg/L (corrected for the molecular weight of the target substance).

No acute aquatic toxicity data for the submission substance is available. However adequate and reliable data for structural analogues (i.e. C8TM and C8C10TM, for read-across justification please see read-across report in section 13) are reported below.

In a reliable acute toxicity study on daphnids (according to OECD 202 and in compliance with GLP, MoE Japan, 2001, RL1) no significant immobility was observed in a limit test at 100 mg/L test substance (analogue substance: trioctyl benzene-1,2,4-tricarboxylate, trioctyl ester, C8TM, CAS no. 89-04-3; corresponding to 108 mg/L of the target substance). Furthermore, no significant immobility was observed in the supporting studies (EU Method C.2, GLP, Huels AG, 1994, RL2 and ICI GEL, 1990, RL4) in a limit test at 4.4 mg/L and 1 mg/L test substance (analogue substance: 1,2,4-benzenetricarboxylic acid, mixed decyl and octyl triesters, C8C10TM, CAS no. 90218-76-1; corresponding to 4.1 -4.8 mg/L and 1 mg/L of the target substance). In conclusion, no acute toxicity to daphnia is expected below the water solubility of the submission substance.
