Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

None of the dilithium salts of dicarboxylic acids (C6-C10) category showed acute toxicity to aquatic organisms with EC50s >10 mg/L. Therefore, they do not meet the criteria for classification as acutely toxic to the aquatic environment under the DSD or the CLP.

Chronic aquatic toxicity data for dilithium salts of dicarboxylic acids (C6 -C10) category are only available for algae. The chronic toxicity NOEC’s based on growth rate are all > 1 mg/L. These data would not result in a chronic classification under the CLP. All of the substances in the category are considered to be readily biodegradable, with a low potential for bioaccumulation and therefore assessment of chronic classification using acute toxicity data are not relevant. This conclusion will be confirmed with the proposed long-term toxicity testing on fish and aquatic organisms with dilithium sebacate.

Conclusion on classification

The available data from freshwater ecotoxicity studies on the three dilithium salts of dicarboxylic acids (C6-C10) (Tobor-Kaplon 2015) showed low acute toxicity >10 mg/L based on EC50’s. PNEC’s have been derived for freshwater, marine water and for intermittent releases based on the lowest reported EC50 of 23 mg/L for the effects on algae of dilithium adipate. This conclusion will be confirmed with the proposed long-term toxicity testing on fish and aquatic organisms with dilithium sebacate.

The dilithium salts of dicarboxylic acids (C6-C10) category show low toxicity, have vapour pressures of less than < 2.9 x 10-8 Pa at 25°C, are readily biodegradable and have low potential to bioaccumulate. The substances are not applied directly to soil and the STP, sediment, soil, secondary poisoning and air PNECs were not derived due to a lack of potential exposure or a lack of identified hazard.
