Additional information

Skin Irritation:

Skin irritation property1H-Indole-5-sulfonic acid, 2-(1,3-dihydro-3-oxo-5-sulfo-2H-indol-2-ylidene)-2,3-dihydro-3-oxo-, disodium saltis predicted using QSAR toolbox version 3.3.

The substance1H-Indole-5-sulfonic acid, 2-(1,3-dihydro-3-oxo-5-sulfo-2H-indol-2-ylidene)-2,3-dihydro-3-oxo-, disodium saltis estimated to be non irritating in an in vitro test on EpiDermTM (reconstructed three dimensional human epidermis model).

Eye Irritation:

From the weight of evidence approach the prediction data and experimental data are as given below:

From the SSS QSAR prediction data, eye irritation property of 1H-Indole-5-sulfonic acid, 2-(1,3-dihydro-3-oxo-5-sulfo-2H-indol-2-ylidene)-2,3-dihydro-3-oxo-, disodium salt is predicted using QSAR toolbox version 3.3.

The substance 1H-Indole-5-sulfonic acid, 2-(1,3-dihydro-3-oxo-5-sulfo-2H-indol-2-ylidene)-2,3-dihydro-3-oxo-, disodium salt is estimated to be not irritating in an in vitro test on chicken, isolated eyes.

From EFSA study report (2015)Indigo carmine was tested for eye irritation in albino rabbits using Draize test, produced slight transient irritation ,when 0.2mL of 10% aqueous solutionwas applied twice daily for five days per week for four weeks to the eye of six rabbits. Three days after the last administration, there were no signs of eye irritation in any of the treated animals. This indicates that Indigo carmine is not an eye irritant.

From the above prediction data and study report indicates that the test chemical (CAS no 860-22-0), it can be suggested that the test compound is not an eye irritant.
