Description of key information

The short-term (EC75) endpoint represents the lowest toxicity value obtained for activated sludge (Tomlinson, 1966).
The long-term endpoint represents the lowest toxicity value obtained for Entosiphon sulcatum(Bringmann, 1978).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for microorganisms:
11.4 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for microorganisms:
17 mg/L

Additional information

The endpoints derived for m-Cresol have been used for this mixed xylenol assessment. Since there are structural and physical chemical similarities between the cresols and the other molecules within the mixed xylenol grouping it is acceptable to assume that their ecotoxicological profiles would be similar.
