Description of key information

In accordance with column 2 of REACH Annex IX, further degradation testing does not need to be conducted as the chemical safety assessment does not indicate a need for further investigation and process measures should ensure that there would be little or no exposure to sediment. Some degradation date is available for cresols which show full degradation in up to 4 weeks.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Some data for cresols are available and show that o-cresol is 90% degraded in 24 hours (Manunaga, 1983), p-cresol is completely degraded in 4 weeks in freshwater sediment (Haeggblom, 1992). o-cresol is not degraded in anaerobic conditions (Horowitz, 1982).
