Description of key information

EC50 growth inhibition 72h Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata = 20.4 mg/l (immobilization)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
20.4 mg/L

Additional information

There are two main values regarding the short term toxicity of algae.

The first data EC50h growth Chlorella pyrenoidosa = 44 mg/l is reported in ECOTOX database with reference to Maas-Diepeveen ,J.L., and C.J. Van Leeuwe, Aquatic Toxicity of Aromatic Nitro Compounds and Anilines to Several Freshwater Species, Report No.86-42, Laboratory for Ecotoxicology, Institute for Inland Water Management and Waste Water Treatment:10 p, 1986.

The second value is reported in Initial environmental risk assessment of the japanese Ministry of the enviroment Vol 12 for N-methylaniline where is indicated EC50 growth inhibition 72h Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata = 20.4 mg/l (immobilization).

Following the precautionary approach, the lowest value must be used for the risk assessment.
