First-aid measures

Emergency measure - Inhalation: Remove to fresh air.  Symptomatic treatment.  Obtain

immediate medical attention.

Emergency measure - Eyes: Wash thoroughly with water and continue for at least 15 minutes.  Seek medical attention.

advice on suitable monitoring methods, seek guidance from a qualified environment, health and

safety professional.

ENGINEERING CONTROLS

Exposure Controls

This material has been assigned to GlaxoSmithKline Occupational Hazard Category 3 with a

hygiene guide of 10 - <100 mcg/m3. An Exposure Control Approach (ECA) is established for

operations involving this material based upon the OEL/Occupational Hazard Category and the

outcome of a site- or operation-specific risk assessment. Refer to the Exposure Control Matrix for

more information about how ECA's are assigned and how to interpret them.

Containment

Open handling is not recommended. Consider segregating operations, use of enclosures and

sealed transfer systems.

Ventilation

Local exhaust ventilation (LEV) should be used in conjunction with other control measures as a

means of removing material incidentally released.

Administrative

Entry to the working area should be controlled. Doors with interlocks may be needed for materials

airlocks and locker rooms. Only equipment and supplies necessary for job activities should be

taken into working area.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT

Eye Protection

Wear approved cover goggles if eye contact is possible. In addition, a face shield is

recommended.

Gloves

The selection of gloves for a specific activity must be based on the material's properties and on

possible permeation and degradation that may occur under the circumstances of use. Glove

selection must take into account any solvents and other hazards present. Potential allergic

reactions can occur with certain glove materials (e.g. Latex) and therefore these should be

avoided. Care must be exercised if insufficient data are available and further guidance should be

sought from your local EHS department.

Respirators

If respiratory protective equipment (RPE) is used, the type of RPE will depend upon air

concentrations present, required protection factor as well as hazards, physical properties and

warning properties of substances present. RPE should provide full face protection. Follow local

regulations for respirator use in the workplace.

Consider control procedures for maintenance, cleaning and emergencies. Eye wash and shower

stations should be available. Wear appropriate clothing to avoid skin contact.

Dust explosion: There is a potential for dust explosion of this organic

powder when it becomes airbourne.  However, appropriate

handling and storage procedures are used to minimise the risk of electrostatic discharge.

Disposal considerations

Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Handling of the substance will be by trained operators, and

will be kept to a minimum.

Discharge to the environment will be minimal.  Recovery from minor spillages or accidental discharge is not economically

or technically feasible, and such waste material wiil be

disposed of by incineration.  In principle, it may be possible to recover larger spillages of uncontaminated

material for subsequent use.

Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: The notification tests have shown that the substance is

toxic, an eye irritant, a  skin sensitiser and dangerous for

the environment.

under controlled conditions at a licensed waste treatment

processor in accordance with local regulations.  Stack gases should be scrubbed, because noxious fumes (eg. carbon and
