no

Test solutions

Vehicle:
yes
Details on test solutions:
Direct dispersion in water. 200 mg of test material were dispersed in 2 L water to give a 100 mg/L stock solution from which dilutions were to give the test series.
1% Tween 80-dimethyl-sulfoxide at a concentration of 100 μL/L was added to aid dispersal of the test material.

Test organisms

Test organisms (species):
Daphnia magna
Details on test organisms:
Laboratory culture originating from a strain supplied by the Institut National de Recherche Chimique Appliquée, (I.R.CH.A), France.

Study design

Test type:
static
Water media type:
freshwater
Total exposure duration:
48 h

Test conditions

Hardness:
approximately 50mg/L as CaCO3.
Test temperature:
22 °C

7.8 -8.5 mg O2/l
Nominal and measured concentrations:
1.0, 1.8, 3.2, 5.6, 10, 18, 32, 56 and 100 mg/L
Details on test conditions:
Test water : Dechlorinated (with sodium thiosulphate) and aged laboratory tap water.
Test vessels : Glass jars each containing 200 ml test solution and covered to reduce evaporation.
Experimental design : 9 test concentrations plus 1 control and 1 solvent control (including 100 μl/l of auxiliary solvent), each in duplicate. 20 animals per concentration.
Method of initiation : Daphnia were placed in the test solutions after additional of the test material.
Loading : 20 ml test solution per organism.
Photoperiod : 16h light, 8h dark.
Aeration : None.
Media renewal : None.
Criteria of effect : Daphnia were considered to be immobilised if they were unable to swim for approximately 15 seconds after gentle agitation.
