Study design

Inoculum or test system:
activated sludge, domestic, adapted
Details on inoculum:
The aeration stage of the Severn Trent Plc sewage treatment plant
at Belper, Derbyshire, treating predominantly domestic sewage.

Standard culture medium
Solution 1: KH2PO4 8.5g/L, K2HPO4 21.75g/L, Na2HPO4.2H2O 33.3g/L, NH4Cl 1.7g/L pH=7.2
Solution 2: MgSO4.7H2O 22.5g/L
Solution 3: CaCl2 27.5g/L
Solution 4: FeCl3.6H2O 0.25g/L

1mL of each of solutions 1-4 were added to each litre of aerated reverse osmosis purified and deionised water.
