Description of key information

Refractive index 1.4457 at 20 °C

Additional information

Kloetzel (1948) investigated reactions of nitroparaffins, some of them yielding the submission item Dimethyl itaconate (CAS 617-52-7). He confirmed the identity by elemental analysis and measured further the refractory index at 20 °C. At the time of the publications no guideline existed and no data on the method applied are given, but the value was independently verified by other authors.

In conclusion the refractive index is considered being 1.4457 at 20 °C.
