Description of key information

Short-term toxicity to fish Fish:

In this 96-hour semi-static acute toxicity test on Zebrafish (Brachydanio rerio) the test item Methyl-isobutyl-ketone-peroxide (MIKP) had significant toxic effects on fish. The 96-h LC50 value was determined to be 1.89 mg/L. The 96-h NOEC and LOEC values were determined to be 1.38 mg/L and 2.62 mg/L, respectively. The results are based on measured test item concentrations.

Short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates:

In this 48-hour acute toxicity test on Daphnia magna, the obtained results showed that the test item Methyl-isobutyl-ketone-peroxide (MIKP) had significant toxic effects on the mobility of Daphnia. The 48-h EC50 value was determined to be 4.48 mg/L. The 48-h NOEC was determined to be 2.00 mg/L and the 48-h LOEC was determined to be 5.11 mg/L. The results are based on measured test item concentrations.

Toxicity to aquatic algae

In an algal growth inhibition test with Raphidocelis subcapitata, the 72-h EC10, EC20, EC50 for growth rate for MIKP were determined to be 0.94, 1.07 and 1.33 mg/L, respectively. The 72-h EC10, EC20, EC50 for yield were determined to be 0.65, 0.78 and 1.04 mg/L, respectively. The LOEC values based on growth rate and yield were determined to be 1.04 mg/L. The 72-h NOEC for growth rate and yield was determined to be 0.15 mg/L. The results are based on measured geometric mean test item concentrations.

Toxicity to microorganisms:

Under the conditions of the performed Activated Sludge Respiration Inhibition Test, the EC10 and EC50 values of test item were determined as 12.8 mg/L (95% confidence limits: 10.5–15.6 mg/L) and 37.0 mg/L (95% confidence limits: 32.4–42.2 mg/L), respectively. Based on the statistical and biological evaluation in this test the NOEC was determined as 6.33 mg/L.

Long-term toxicity testing to fish and aquatic invertebrates was waived based on ready biodegrability and very limited exposure to the environment, if any.
