Description of key information
The particle size distribution of quinic acid sample #1 is < 500 µm and the particle size distribution of sample #2 is < 63 µm. The mass median diameter of quinic acid is in a range of 26 - 43µm.

In this study report, the particle size distribution of quinic acid was determined. The particle size distribution of quinic acid sample #1 is < 500 µm and the particle size distribution of sample #2 is < 63 µm. In sample #2 lower particles sizes were measured, so that this sample is more conservative for predicting the dustiness. With regard to inhalation potential, 100 % can be inhaled (<100 µm). 40 % of quinic acid has a particle size < 20 µm. Therefore, the alveoli relevant respirable fraction (<10 µm) is <40%. The mass median diameter is in a range of 26 - 43 µm.
