Biodegradation in water

The biodegradation of n-Butyl vinyl ether was tested in a CO2 Test in seasled vessels (Headspace Test) according to OECD Test Guideline 310. The degree of biodegradation after an exposure period of 28 days was 83±1 % TIC/TOC in this test. The mean value of degree of biodegradation was calculated by the single values of five test assays at the end of exposure with a limit of confidence of 95 %. The required pass level of the ten day window for ready biodegradability was reached. Thus n-Butyl vinyl ether is considered as readily biodegradable

Phototransformation in air

Using EPISuite software SRC AOP v1.92 the phototransformation in air was calculated to be 2.758 h (half-life in air).

After evaporation or exposure to the air the substance will be rapidly degraded by photochemical processes.

Hydrolysis

According to Annex VII - Column 2 escape clause, the hydrolysis study does not need to be conducted if the substance is readily biodegradable. N-Butyl vinyl ether is considered as readily biodegradable. Consequently, no test on hydrolysis is performed.

Transport and distribution

The soil adsorption coefficient (Koc) was calculated using EPIsuite KOCWIN program. Using the molecular connectivity index (MCI) method the Koc was calculated to be 32.21 L/kg and log Koc to be 1.5080 respectively. Thus, adsorption to solid soil phase is not expected.
