Description of key information

Flammable upon ignition.
The substance has no pyrophoric properties and does not liberate flammable gases in contact with water.
The substance is not a self-heating substance or mixture.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
highly flammable

Additional information

A study was conducted to determine the flash point of the substance. The flash point was determined to be -6 °C and the boiling point was determined to be 94 °C. In addition the Hawley's Condensed Chemical Dictionary and Sax's Dangerous Properties of Industrial Materials reports the substance as highly flammable liquid. Thus, the substance was classified as flammable liquid cat. 2, H225.

Based on chemical structure pyrophoric properties and flammability in contact with water are not to be expected.

The substance or mixture does not need to be classified as self-heating as the substance is a liquid.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Classification, Labelling, and Packaging Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008

Based on the study results, the molecular structure, the experience in handling and use and taking into account the provisions laid down in Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008, as amended for the sixth time in Regulation (EC) No 605/2014., the substance has to be classified as flammable liquid cat. 2, H225 and has not to be classified as flammable in contact with water, pyrophoric, or self heating substance.
