Reference
Endpoint:
boiling point
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
02 Mar - 01 Apr 2015
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 103 (Boiling point/boiling range)
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.2 (Boiling Temperature)
Principles of method if other than guideline:
Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) combined with thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA)
GLP compliance:
no
Type of method:
differential scanning calorimetry
Key result
Boiling pt.:
ca. 315 °C
Atm. press.:
999 hPa
Decomposition:
yes
Decomp. temp.:
ca. 315 °C
Remarks on result:
other: Test item shows boiling and/or thermal decomposition at ca. 315 °C

To determine the boiling behaviour (three independend single measurements), the test item was measured by DSC between 5 °C and 500 °C with a heating rate of 10 K/min. For the measurement a partially capsuled crucible, typical for boiling point measurements, was used.

The test item shows a boiling and/or thermal decomposition earliest at ca. 315 °C (at 999 mbar) according to the definition in the OECD guideline 103.

315 °C (from first measurement)

316 °C (from second measurement)

314 °C (from third measurement)

From 315 °C the test item shows a boiling and /or thermal decomposition with evaporation of the decomposition compontents.

The DSC measurements were confirmed by means of TGA measurements under the same measuring conditions.

The start of the area of boiling temperatures is defined by using the on-set temperature.

Conclusions:
ca. 315 °C at 999 hPa, boiling and/or decomposition (OECD 103)

Description of key information

The boiling point is determined to be ca. 315 °C at 999 hPa, boiling and/or decomposition (OECD 103)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Boiling point at 101 325 Pa:
315 °C

Additional information

The boiling temperature of the substance Propyleneglycol dioleate (CAS 105 -62 -4) was determined with DSC, boiling and / or decomposition temperature was confirmed by means of TGA.
