Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

First-aid measures

Description of first aid measures

Remove contaminated clothing.

If inhaled:

If difficulties occur after vapour/aerosol has been inhaled, remove to fresh air and seek medical attention.

On skin contact:

Immediately wash thoroughly with soap and water, seek medical attention. If irritation develops, seek medical attention.

On contact with eyes:

Wash affected eyes for at least 15 minutes under running water with eyelids held open. If irritation develops, seek medical attention.

On ingestion:

Rinse mouth and then drink plenty of water.

Fire-fighting measures

Extinguishing media

Suitable extinguishing media:

carbon dioxide, dry powder, water spray, foam

Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture

nitrogen oxides, carbon oxides

The substances/groups of substances mentioned can be released in case of fire. Under certain conditions in case of fire other hazardous combustion products may be generated.

Advice for fire-fighters

Special protective equipment:

Wear a self-contained breathing apparatus.

Further information:

Collect contaminated extinguishing water separately, do not allow to reach sewage or effluent systems.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures

Handle in accordance with good industrial hygiene and safety practice.

Environmental precautions

Do not empty into drains.

Methods and material for containment and cleaning up

For large amounts: Pump off product.

For residues: Pick up with suitable absorbent material (e.g. sand, sawdust, general-purpose binder, kieselguhr). Dispose of absorbed material in accordance with regulations.

Handling and storage

Precautions for safe handling

Protection against fire and explosion:

If exposed to fire, keep containers cool by spraying with water. It is recommended that all conductive parts of the machinery are grounded.

Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities

Segregate from acids and acid forming substances.

Further information on storage conditions: Keep at temperature not exceeding 25 °C. Protect from direct sunlight.

Storage stability:

Storage duration: 6 Months

The product is stabilized, the shelf life should be noted.

From the data on storage duration in this safety data sheet no agreed statement regarding the warrantee of application properties can be deduced.

additives:

potassium hydroxide; caustic potash  (CAS Number: 1310-58-3)

Content: 0.01 %

Exposure controls / personal protection

Control parameters

Components with occupational exposure limits

No occupational exposure limits known.

Exposure controls

Personal protective equipment

Respiratory protection:

Wear respiratory protection if ventilation is inadequate. Gas filter for gases/vapours of organic compounds (boiling point >65 °C, e. g. EN 14387 Type A)

Hand protection:

Chemical resistant protective gloves (EN 374)

Suitable materials also with prolonged, direct contact (Recommended:  Protective index 6, corresponding > 480 minutes of permeation time according to EN 374):

fluoroelastomer (FKM) - 0.7 mm coating thickness

Manufacturer's directions for use should be observed because of great diversity of types.

Supplementary note: The specifications are based on tests, literature data and information of glove manufacturers or are derived from similar substances by analogy. Due to many conditions (e.g. temperature) it must be considered, that the practical usage of a chemical-protective glove in practice may be much shorter than the permeation time determined through testing.

Eye protection:

Safety glasses with side-shields (frame goggles) (e.g. EN 166)

General safety and hygiene measures

Handle in accordance with good industrial hygiene and safety practice. Wearing of closed work clothing is required additionally to the stated personal protection equipment.

Stability and reactivity

Reactivity

Strong exothermic reaction with acids.

Chemical stability

The product is stabilized against spontaneous polymerization prior to despatch.

Possibility of hazardous reactions

The product can polymerize if the shelf life or storage temperature are greatly exceeded. Heat develops during polymerization.

Polymerization occurs with acids. Polymerization coupled with heat formation.

Ignitable air mixtures can form when the product is heated above the flash point and/or when sprayed or atomized.

Conditions to avoid

Avoid heat. Avoid humidity. Avoid light.

Incompatible materials

Substances to avoid:

acids, acid chlorides

Hazardous decomposition products

acetaldehyde; ethanal

The substances/groups of substances mentioned may be released upon the reaction with water., No hazardous decomposition products if stored and handled as prescribed/indicated.

Disposal considerations

Waste treatment methods

Incinerate in suitable incineration plant, observing local authority regulations.

A waste code in accordance with the European waste catalog (EWC) cannot be specified, due to dependence on the usage.

The waste code in accordance with the European waste catalog (EWC) must be specified in cooperation with disposal agency/manufacturer/authorities

Contaminated packaging:

Contaminated packaging should be emptied as far as possible; then it can be passed on for recycling after being thoroughly cleaned.
