Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Zinc, 5,5'-azobis-2,4,6(1H,3H,5H)-pyrimidinetrione complexes and melamine was exposed to activated sludge of domestic sewage treatment plant in a GLP study following OECD 209. The study reported of no effects after 3 hours of exposure at the limit test concentration (EC50 > 1000 mg/L, NOEC > 1000 mg/L).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for microorganisms:
1 000 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for microorganisms:
1 000 mg/L

Additional information

EC50 should read > 1,000 mg/L, the NOEC should read >= 1,000 mg/L.

The study report gives EC50 > 1,000 mg/L and NOEC = 1,000 mg/L although no effect had been determined at the limit test concentration. In the absence of an effect the NOEC should be reported as >= 1,000 mg/L. Taking into account that the water solubility of zinc, 5,5'-azobis-2,4,6(1H,3H,5H)-pyrimidinetrione complexes and melamine is low with 0.52 mg/L no effects would be expected at higher test concentrations. Concluding, the test item did not cause effects at the test concentration which is higher than the water solubility. Therefore, neither EC50 nor NOEC are relevant for PNEC derivation.
