Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Propene is a gas at standard temperature and pressure and is expected to partition primarily to air, therefore aquatic toxicity tests may not be relevant. Measured data are not available for propene for this endpoint. Due to the practical difficulties associated with the ecotoxicity testing of gases (i.e. maintaining exposure concentrations) the use of QSAR toxicity estimates is an appropriate alternative. A QSAR model has been used to estimate the terrestrial toxicity of propene, the Target Lipid Model. The values calculated by this model has been used as the key values for assessment as below.

The TLM-EqP predicted effect values on earthworms for propene were 39.55 and 7.58 mg/kg soil dw for short-term (28-day LL50) and long-term effects (56-day NOELR), respectively.

The TLM-EqP predicted 28-day effect values forFolsomia candidawere 22.2 and 4.3 mg/kg soil dw for short-term (LL50) and long-term effects (NOELR), respectively.

The TLM-EqP predicted effect values for propene were 101.65 and 19.47 mg/kg soil dw for short-term (14-day LL50) and long-term effects (21-day NOELR) to Avena sativa, respectively.

The TLM-EqP predicted effect values for propene were 65.23 and 12.57 mg/kg soil dw for short-term (14-day LL50) and long-term effects (21-day NOELR) to Brassica rapa, respectively.
