This property is not considered to be of relevance for this substance, since it would require heat to be developed either by reaction of this substance with oxygen or by exothermic decomposition, which is not lost rapidly enough to the surroundings. Self-ignition therefore occurs when the rate of heat-production exceeds the rate of heat loss.

Long-term industrial experience of manufacturing and handling the substance has not demonstrated any self-ignition properties.

Furthermore, by way of extrapolation, lead metal powder has been tested according to EU-Method A.10, yielding a result of “not flammable”. It can therefore be assumed that lead metal powder is not ignitable or auto-flammable. Since tetralead trioxide sulphate represents an inorganic salt containing lead in an oxidised status (2+) and a stable anion of an inorganic acid, the substance is intrinsically less combustible than lead metal powder itself and will not undergo self-ignition. Thus, tetralead trioxide sulphate can safely be assumed not to be ignitable or auto-flammable.
