Description of key information

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Skin sensitisation

Endpoint conclusion
Additional information:

In accordance to section 2 of REACH Annex XI, the study on skin sensitisation does not need to be conducted as the substance is a gas.

Migrated from Short description of key information:
The gaseous nature of vinyl chloride precludes the performance of conventional skin sensitisation studies in animals.

Respiratory sensitisation

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
no adverse effect observed (not sensitising)
Additional information:

There is no evidence of respiratory tract sensitisation reported in repeated exposure inhalation studies in animals.

No positive human data is available.

Migrated from Short description of key information:
Based on the available animal and human data, respiratory tract sensitisation is not expected.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The gaseous nature of vinyl chloride precludes the conduct of conventional skin sensitisation studies in animals. Therefore, classification for skin sensitisation is not applicable according to EU Directive 67/548/EEC and EU Directive 67/584/EEC and EU Classification, Labelling and Packaging of Substances and Mixtures (CLP) Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008.
