Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

No long-term effects on sediment organisms can be expected for Fatty acids, C16-18, esters with pentaerythritol (CAS-No. 85116-93-4).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

No experimental result for Fatty acids, C16-18, esters with pentaerythritol (CAS-No. 85116-93-4) is available. According to column 2 of EC 1907/2006 Annex X long-term toxicity testing with sediment organisms shall only be proposed if the chemical safety assessment indicates the need to investigate further the effects of the substance on sediment organisms. No effects of the test substance can be expected for sediment organisms due to the following reasons: As the test substance Fatty acids, C16-18, esters with pentaerythritol (CAS: 85116-93-4) is readily biodegradable and poorly soluble in water (< 1 mg/L) it is not likely that it can be found in the environment in high concentrations and therefore toxic effects to sediment organisms are unlikely to occur. Furthermore data from acute studies with aquatic species showed no toxic effects in the range of water solubility. No effects were reported from mammalian repeated dose and acute toxicity tests as well. Hence, considering the expected low concentrations in the aquatic environment, that no effects were observed in aquatic organisms in the range of water solubility and the low of potential for bioaccumulation no toxicity data for sediment organisms should be generated.
