Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

The boiling point (at 1013 hPa) is 290°C for 100% sulphuric acid and 310 to 335°C for 98% sulphuric acid.

Conclusions:
The boiling point (at 1013 hPa) is 290°C for 100% sulphuric acid and 310 to 335°C for 98% sulphuric acid.
Executive summary:

The boiling point (at 1013 hPa) is 290°C for 100% sulphuric acid and 310 to 335°C for 98% sulphuric acid.

Description of key information

The general trend seen in the three publications is that the boiling point increases as the acid strength increases to a maximum at around 97 -98%. As the acid strength continues to rise to 100%, the boiling point value slowly falls.

Additional information

The general trend seen in the three publications is that the boiling point increases as the acid strength increases to a maximum at around 97 -98%. As the acid strength continues to rise to 100%, the boiling point value slowly falls.

Largely differing values for the boiling point are presented for a 98% solution of sulfuric acid. However, the graph presented in the handbook titled 'The manufacture of Sulfuric Acid' supports the OECD value of 310 -335  °C.
