ADEQUACY OF THE RESULT: As indicated in the attached methodology document, in the development of the ECOSAR equations for neutral organics and classes with excess toxicity, the training sets generally include chemicals with log Kow values in the range of -3 to 8 and molecular weights less than 1000. However, the domain of the model is considered to be larger than the descriptor range of the training set of chemicals. Although the individual equations may not have been not built using chemicals with log Kow values greater than 5.0 (acute) and 8.0 (chronic), the model can still make accurate qualitative determination of potential toxicity under environmental conditions for chemicals outside the log Kow descriptor domain. As such, the prediction fits the purpose of classification and labelling and risk assessment.

Executive summary:

 Long-term aquatic toxicity was estimated using the ECOSAR model (applicability explained in the attached reports). No toxic effects are expected to occur in saturated solutions even with long-term exposures.  


This is consistent with toxicity test results for similar C-8 and C10 trimellitate compounds (tris-ethylhexyl trimellitate, EC #:222-020-0 and mixed decyl and octyl trimellitates , EC #:304-780-6) where no effects were observed at levels above solubility in standard long-term aquatic toxicity tests; as well as general literature for poorly soluble chemicals (Tolls et al. 2009).
