Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Substance: Flue dust lead refining

“Flue dust lead refining is formed as a by-product from refining and smelting of lead containing materials. Flue dust lead refining consists of variable amounts of lead, copper, zinc, tin, cadmium, antimony and other metals in either alloy form or as compounds such as oxides, sulphides and sulphates. ”

Note: substances pre-registered under the EC numbers 285-554-3, 274-633-8, 305-414-8 and 273-809-1 were merged as a result of sameness discussions within the relevant SIEFs. They are collectively identified under the name Flue dust, lead refining and the EC number 273-809-1.

Flue dust, lead refining is a faint yellow to light grey, odourless solid (at 20°C and 101.3 kPA) in powder form.

The density will vary according to the precise composition of the sample. The density of the tested samples was 3.93 and 4.21 g/cm3. The melting point is shown to be > 500°C. Consequently, boiling point and vapour pressure cannot be determined. The water solubility test shows dissolution of metal ions. Two samples were tested for granulometry, a D50 = 38 micrometer and < 20 micrometer were determined. Both the results of the water solubility test and the granulometry test should be used with caution.

There is no evidence of physical hazards in terms of (auto)flammability, explosivity and oxidizing properties.

Studies regarding flash point, partition coefficient and surface tension do not need to be conducted.

Waivers are in place for all these endpoints.
