Additional information

Hexamethylene diamine (CAS N°124-09-4) is a colourless to white mass crystallised solid at ambient temperature (MP = 39.9°C); however, for physico-chemical properties relevant for occupational exposure, it has to be considered as a liquid as it is always handled and used in such a state. It is occasionally transported or placed on the market in drums as a mass crystallised solid, but it is always used after melting the product.

The substance is readily soluble in water, and may be slightly volatile although this information is based upon the substance in the liquid form above 40°C. It is not surface-active. It is not lipophilic based on the log Kow of 0.4. The dissociation constant is not within the environmentally-relevant pH range and the substance would be totally ionised at environmental pH.

It is not classified as hazardous with regards to physical hazards (flammability, explosiveness, oxidising properties).
