Description of key information

Water Solubility [chloro(dimethyl)vinylsilane]: not relevant
Water Solubility [dimethyl(vinyl)silanol]: Above approximately 250 mg/l, condensation reaction can occur over time, limiting the concentration dissolved in water. The calculated solubility is 3700 mg/l at 20°C (QSAR)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The requirement to test the substance for water solubility is waived on the basis that it hydrolyses very rapidly to dimethyl(vinyl)silanol and hydrochloric acid. The hydrolysis product, dimethyl(vinyl)silanol, may undergo condensation reactions in water; these become important above approximately 250 mg/l and can limit the concentration dissolved in water. For details, see the overall physicochemical properties discussion.

The water solubility of the silanol hydrolysis product has been calculated to be 3700 mg/l at 20°C using a validated QSAR estimation method.
