Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Short- and long-term toxicity to soil macroorganisms except arthropods:

No toxicity studies have been carried out on soil macroorganisms with registration substance. PETROTOX v 4.01 predicted 14-d LL50(mortality) of this substance to Eisenia fetida of 1,375 mg/kg soil dw and 56-d EL10(reproduction) of 263 mg/kg soil dw.

Short- and long-term toxicity to terrestrial arthropods:

No toxicity studies have been carried out on terrestrial anthropods with registration substance. PETROTOX v 4.01 predicted  28-d LL50(mortality) of this substance to Folsomia candida of 773 mg/kg soil dw and d 28-d EL10(reproduction) of 148 mg/kg soil dw.

Short- and long-term toxicity to terrestrial plants:

No toxicity studies have been carried out on terrestrial plants with registration substance. PETROTOX model v 4.01 predicted values are available.

The predicted 14-d EL50(seedling emergence) of this substance to Avena sativa is 3,534 mg/kg soil dw and the predicted 21-d EL10(growth) is 677 mg/kg soil dw.

The predicted 14-d EL50(seedling emergence) of this substance to Brassica rapa is 2,282 mg/kg soil dw and the predicted 21-d EL10(growth) is 437 mg/kg soil dw.

Short- and long-term toxicity to soil microorganisms:

No toxicity studies have been carried out on soil macroorganisms with registration substance. PETROTOX v4.01 predicted 24-h EL50(nitrite utilization) and 24 -h EL10(nitrile utilization) of this substance to Nitrobacter to be greater than 1,000 mg/kg soil dw.

Toxicity to birds:

REACH Annex XI says that Testing in accordance Annex VIII to X may be omitted based on the exposure scenario(s) developed in the Chemical Safety Report. The substance is not PBT and the exposure assessment in the CSR (Section 13) shows there is no risk the environment. As such, this end-point has been waived as no further data is required.

Additional information

The registered substance is a complex petroleum UVCB whose constituents have variable physicochemical properties. Therefore, a modeling framework is needed to account for the bioavailability of the constituents in the mixture, which was then used to predict the toxicity of the substance as a whole. The target lipid model (TLM) and HC5, have been applied to soils and sediment using equilibrium partitioning (EqP) model. As such, modeled data are considered fit for purpose. The model used for the calculations was the PETROTOX v4.0 model. PETROTOX is a well-documented and peer reviewed model that is widely used across the chemicals industry.
