Description of key information

The LC50 (96h) of p-HBA in the short term toxicity key study (Toray 1997) was higher than 100 mg/l with pH-neutralisation of the test media. The LC50 (96h) of p-HBA without pH-neutralisation was 92.8 mg/l. pH within this study was between 4.0 and 4.2 in the highest concentration exhibiting effects. Thus, the pH was outside the acceptable range for validity. It can be expected that the effects are mainly due to the low pH, which leads to an unphysiological milieu. Therefore, this value will not be used as key value for hazard assessment.
